It is possible to integrate shipping into ecommerce, which can use the user's address information at checkout to work out a delivery cost directly from the delivery vendor.
If you already use a shipping company, it is possible they have a plugin for WooCommerce that we can embed. If they do, this is a winner, because when the user is checking out, as they enter their address, the plugin gets the rate for the shipping directly from the shipping company, and when the order is placed, the shipping order is also placed. A nice level of automation for all concerned. Some of the vendors provide tracking information for publishing on your website, while others refer end-users to their own websites for shipping tracking. Having tracking significantly enhances the user experience.
Without it, you would need to work out an average cost for delivery and we can apply that at checkout. This is quite complex due to the size of South Africa. To some extent we can provide a solution to this by using post codes which are static, and we ask our clients to provide us with their shipping costs for main centres, outlying areas, and rural delivery based on groupings of regional postal codes.
When building a site we would need to know if you have a shipping agent, and if you do which company. We can advise from there.
Shipping needs to be in place by the time of going live and we therefore recommend priority is placed on this important aspect.
