How to clear browser cache for Chrome, Edge, Firefox, and Safari
Overview
Clearing your browser’s cache is one of the most effective first steps in troubleshooting display or performance issues on websites. Over time, browsers store cached versions of scripts, stylesheets, and images to help sites load faster. However, these files can become outdated, which might cause:
- Pages not loading properly or showing old layouts
- Slow site performance due to corrupted or outdated files
- Website functionality breaking due to version mismatches between stored scripts and the live site
Refreshing the cache prompts your browser to re-download all necessary resources directly from the server—fixing many common issues in the process.
Steps to Clear Cache by Browser
Google Chrome:
- Open Google Chrome.
- Click the three-dot menu (⋮) in the top-right corner.
- Click History, then click History again (or press Ctrl + H / Cmd + Y).
- On the left sidebar, click “Delete browsing data”.
- In the popup:
Set Time range to "All time".
Uncheck all except ✅ "Cached images and files". - Click “Clear data”.
Microsoft Edge

- Go to Privacy, search, and services
- Under Clear browsing data, click Choose what to clear
- Set Time range to All time

- Navigate to Privacy & Security
- Under Cookies and Site Data, click Clear Data…
- Uncheck Cookies and Site Data

- Click Clear and close the tab (changes are saved automatically)
Apple Safari
Method 1: Quick Cache Clear

- Go to the Advanced tab
- Check Show Develop menu in menu bar
- Now go to the Develop menu > Empty Caches
Method 2: Remove Website Data Completely
- Click Safari > Preferences…
- Open the Privacy tab > Manage Website Data
- Select the desired site or Remove All to clear everything
Tip
- Clearing the cache does not remove your browsing history, saved passwords, or cookies (unless selected). It’s a safe way to refresh site content and resolve display or loading issues.
- If a website continues to have problems after clearing the cache, try restarting your browser or switching to an incognito/private window.
