To allow users to checkout, we need a payment processor – we use any of them, some of them provide a slightly better user experience.
They are all free to use, they make their money from a % of sales they process (approx. 3 to 5%)
Recommendations for local payment processors:
We also find that locally, there is a 15 to 30% increase in sales if we enable EFT payments. This adds to your internal process as someone needs to cross-reference payments against the Bank account.
Recommendations for international payment processors:
- If you process over R300,000 per month, https://www.peachpayments.com/ is the only South African Gateway that allows international payments
- If you have an offshore (US) bank account – https://stripe.com is best
- If you do not have an offshore account, you can use https://PayPal.com, but need to get an account at FNB to transfer the money from PayPal into SA.
- If you are processing both International and local, you will need one of each (local & intl)
IMPORTANT: The application for this takes some time, so best to get the ball rolling as soon as possible. The business needs to have paperwork submitted, checked and verified.
